In front
of
the Other,
-
overcoming
inertia.
inertia.
-
Breathe in,
two-three-four
footsteps
harnessing
gravity.
-
August glows
through
through
leaves as
ocean
glass.
-
Sycamore shudders
palms
fluttering
in symphony.
-
Columned
sidewalk
of rose trees
face
off,
-
heady butscentless
beyond
a foot
away.
-
Slingshot
around
the obstacle
by your side.
-
Accellerate
in joy
on a new
trajectory,
-one foot
in front
of the Other.

ReplyDeleteHmmm... don't you overcome inertia (the tendency for an object in motion to stay in motion) by applying friction?
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, Eric, thank you for the definition. All this time I had the impression inertia is what keeps an object from randomly moving from a stop. My teenagers helped me harness the property of inertia in space. .....from the couch, however, it's another matter....Ha!
ReplyDeleteWell, the rest of your 'science' was spot-on and cleverly utilized.
ReplyDeleteYes, couches are a wonderful invention... but I usually default to my La-Z-Boy recliner.
Hmmmm....

It's a good thing I checked....

I liked the spacing and the pacing and the feel of this poem. And as I'm laying on my sofa right now, I'm loving it even more because I think inertia agrees with me!
ReplyDeleteForm and content work really well together here. This strides along impressively both verbally and visually.
