Thank you for your input! It was actually a natural response to awakening at 1:30 AM to the neighbor's dogs Hysterical and squealing. I thought in my stupor they were being killed by coyotes or foxes. They also halted so suddenly I thought they'd met their silent demise..... not so lucky. The following night they were inside though, and I slept.
