-
Tonight’s sky
holds a gibbus moon
shining sideways,
a dry addict’s spoon.
-
The waxing moon
hangs a winkless scowl
heavily lidded
as an angry vow,
-
Snaps a blink
like a blistering whip
against a slave
of a sleepless ship.
-
The road ahead:
blood dried black
as a blind dog’s nose on
an old, cold track.

This is a Flash Fiction 55 word poem. If you have one, or a story, post it friday and let G-Man know
HERE
Dianne...Dark is the night when there is no rest in it regardless of the light of the moon illuminating the path. The key being in adapting to the lack of sleep not making the insomnia an enemy but rather a friend.
ReplyDeletedang that was good. like several stories in one with the imagery. great 55!
ReplyDeletemine is up!
What a way to describe not being able to sleep. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI'm up right HERE
Really nice dark images here. I am a chronic insomniac (is that the definition of insomniac - chronic?). Anyway, I totally get this poem. I love the next to last stanza most.
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative 55! I don't think I've ever heard the moon described in this way before. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThere's some good advice from a fellow insomniac!
ReplyDeleteAlso Young Lady...There is certainly more to you than Haiku!

The imagery of that first stanza is stunning!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, I love this one -- the last stanza's my favourite but all together, the imagery and the dark are just marvelous. Sleeplessness gave you a gift, in this one -- but I hope it leaves you soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm digging this 55!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I'm out snarking about the blogoverse tonight from G-man's...good to find you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, n o matter how many you used.
ReplyDeleteI really like all four verses, but the final one is the one that really calls up a strong image for me. (That's only because I'm a big animal lover.) I also thought the "dry addict's spoon" was pretty great.
ReplyDeleteDianne, if you're interested, why not join us in the Sepia Saturday excercise. We'd love to have you!

I vote that you read this one for us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful imagery, Diane, which describes so well my unwanted bedfellow. Thanks for your visit.
ReplyDeleteI like your poem very much Diane. Thanks for visiting my blog - please call again.
ReplyDeleteLove the cold, brutal imagery, especially of the sleepless slave on a ship. Chronic insomnia, ugh, used to be the bane of my existence.
